St. Jude Religious Education PRE/VISIONS  Calendar 2024-2025

 

St. Jude Parish Religious Education (PRE) assists parents in guiding their children on their spiritual journey. The program is designed for all children Kindergarten through the 8th grade, and meets Wednesdays 6:30pm – 7:30pm September through May. The Faith Formation program for 6-8th graders is called VISIONS and will meet Wednesdays 6-7:30pm. Pre-registraton begins in the late spring and is required as space is limited.  If you are interested in volunteering as a catechist or aide  in our program please contact Director Deb Weiss at the parish office

Sacramental preparation for Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation is incorporated into the regular weekly PRE curriculum.  Second grade is the typical age for Reconciliation and Communion, and 6th grade is the earliest that Confirmation will be conferred. If your child has missed these sacraments or is behind in faith formation instruction,  then special preparation or “catch-up” classes or home study in addition to regular classes may be suggested.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) – St Jude Parish is excited to announce the beginning of a wonderful new faith formation program for young children (Kindergarten) in a specially prepared (Montessori-based) space called the Atrium.

2024-2025 PRE Information
Parish Religious Education (PRE) classes are offered September thru May for grades Kindergarten to Grade 6 for children who do not receive Catholic religious education during their normal school day. Classes are held Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm.  VISIONS, our program for Junior High (7^th- 8^th ), will be held from 6-7:30pm, also on Wednesdays. High School Youth Ministry meets on Sunday evenings after the 5:30pm Mass.  (Junior High/High School programs meet in the youth rooms in the Parish Life Center basement and are open to all parish students whether enrolled in public, Catholic, or home school.)

Catechists (teachers) needed
If you have a love for children and would like to share your faith with others, please consider being a volunteer team teacher for our Parish Religious Education program. Teen aides also needed. (Notre Dame volunteer hours and PIP hours given) Please contact DRE Deb Weiss at 870-2386 for more information.

First Penance & First Holy Communion (two-year preparation requirement)
 Attendance in our 1^st Grade Parish Religious Education (PRE) classes (or enrollment at St. Jude School) is a necessary and vital component to preparation and reception of the sacraments in the 2^nd grade. Please plan to register your incoming 1^st Grade child in our Wednesday evening religious education classes (if they do not attend St. Jude School) if you intend for them to receive their First Penance and First Eucharist in the 2^nd grade.  Older students needing these sacraments will be required to attend special classes and work from home to catch up.

Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation is conferred on those students in 6^th grade or older. There are no separate classes for Confirmation preparation- it is done through the regular PRE classes on Wednesday evenings.  The date of Confirmation is typically in the late winter and is set by the Bishop. Students attending St Jude School or Notre Dame will be prepared for the sacrament through their respective schools. Registration is required through the parish.

Registration Forms/Dates
Classes are scheduled to begin Wednesday, Sept 4.   Registration forms can be picked up in the Church vestibule, parish office, or online on the website.  Pre-registration by Aug 28 is required as classes may fill up.  Questions,? Call Deb Weiss at the parish office (870-2386)
