  • Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts:

The Boy Scouts of America is a youth program focused on character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness through age-appropriate activities involving fun & games, opportunities for leadership, learning ethical values, involvement in community service, and learning & practicing outdoor skills.

St. Jude has a vibrant and active Scouting program and sponsors a Cub Scout Pack (1st-5th grade) and a Boy Scout Troop (6th grade - age 18).  The Pack typically meets once a month on Tuesday evenings, with additional meetings scheduled more often by grade.  The Troop generally meets twice a month on Sunday afternoons, in addition to monthly outdoor activities such as campouts.  For further information please call John Davis, Cubmaster for Pack 3172, at (423) 847-9075, or Warren Diegel, Scoutmaster for Troop 172, at (423) 843-3855.

  • Girl Scouts: Where today’s girls become tomorrow’s leaders

In Girl Scouting, girls have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, skills that will help them throughout their lives. We have several levels in Girl Scouts, starting with Daisies: They learn what the Girl Scout law is and what it means, they earn special Daisy pedals during their year as a daisy scout, next are the Brownie Scouts, they are in scouting for the next 3 years, they go a step further, they not only learn what the Girl Scout law and promise are, they live it. We teach them to be courageous and strong, friendly and helpful and to be a friend to all. Brownies earn “Try-its” for the recognition of what they have learned. Then we have the Junior scouts, they too, stay for 3 years, they learn to explore in many different fields, such as music, math and science, outdoor fun such as learning to cook on an open fire, riding horses and doing more for the community. They earn badges for the work they do. And finally we have Cadettes: During these years, girls begin to make their own decisions. Exploring careers and finding themselves are added to the traditional girl scout activities.
