What's happening at St. Jude School!

  • Pumpkin Saints

To help celebrate and understand the importance of All Saint's Day, fifth grade students in Mrs. Ross's religion classes create pumpkin saints. Using seasonal pumpkins and lots of creativity, this activity has become a fifth grade family tradition for many. The results are both educational and entertaining.

  • First and Eight Grade Partners

Friendships are formed and memories are made,  often for a lifetime. This is the case with the St. Jude School First/Eighth Grade Partner program. This year, the eighth grade students met their first grade partners and had a picnic on the campus grounds. It was a great opportunity to get to know each other and to form a bond with the person who will be a Mass partner, special friend and lifelong school buddy!!!

  • Grandparent's Day:

Grandparents are a Blessing from God. Grandparent's Day at St. Jude School is always special. This year was no exception as over 200 grandparents, many from out of state, visited our school to share time with their special grandchildren. A breakfast buffet and classroom visits were included in the morning that included a Mass and special program conducted by the children.

  • We're in Egypt!

6th grade students work from the beginning of the year studying the history, art, science and culture of ancient Egypt. The multi curriculum project concludes with a tour through an ancient Egyptian museum, complete with pharaohs, queens, mummified chickens and Egyptian food. This colorful activity is a true example of cross curricular learning.

  • Field Day 2009:

A highlight of the school year is the annual field day events, made possible with the support of the physical education department, Notre Dame student volunteers, and MANY wonderful parent volunteers. The obstacle course, tug of war, relays and long jump events are just a few of the many popular events. The morning began with the Parade of Champions, each grade dressed in their class colors and always includes several visits to the popular concession stand for popcorn and candy!ite.

  • Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts:

The Boy Scouts of America is a youth program focused on character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness through age-appropriate activities involving fun & games, opportunities for leadership, learning ethical values, involvement in community service, and learning & practicing outdoor skills.

St. Jude has a vibrant and active Scouting program and sponsors a Cub Scout Pack (1st-5th grade) and a Boy Scout Troop (6th grade - age 18).  The Pack typically meets once a month on Tuesday evenings, with additional meetings scheduled more often by grade.  The Troop generally meets twice a month on Sunday afternoons, in addition to monthly outdoor activities such as campouts.  For further information please call John Davis, Cubmaster for Pack 3172, at (423) 847-9075, or Greg Kniedler, Scoutmaster for Troop 172, at (423) 842-3757.

    • Girl Scouts: Where today’s girls become tomorrow’s leaders:

The Girl Scout organization is dedicated to girls and in an accepting and nurturing environment, helps them build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed parent volunteers, our girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives: leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction. The goal of the St. Jude Daisy, Brownie, Junior and Cadette program is to engage girls in discovering self, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place.
